Big Family, Jars of Redemption

About Us

Hello! Welcome to our little home on the web! I just wanted to take a minute to introduce our family to you!

My name is Emmalyn and I am the mind behind our posts! In mentioning mind and matter, I spend an incredible amount of time in my head so this blog is primarily a way to put my intellectual jumble on “paper”.

My husband and I have been married for going on 4 years. I love our life! He is an incredible man of God and as you get to know us you will likely find me bragging on him regularly. I had come from a previous marriage that all but broke me when I met Garrett. One of the first things he said to me that dropped a brick off the wall around my heart was, “I want to love all the things you love.” And he does. He accepts my quirky, my dreamer’s heart and even the less desirable parts of me without complaint.

July 4th, 2016…the day he asked me to marry him!

One of the things that has been said about the two of us is that we do everything BIG and we jump in feet first. We really can’t argue with the accuracy of that statement. In fact, we are both dreamers and we add fuel to each other’s fire. In our second year of marriage we decided to adopt. It wasn’t our original plan to have our first kids through adoption instead of biologically…but in discussing it out loud we realized that if our call was to adopt, why should we put certain parameters on that?

So we started to look into it. In our research, we discussed many different possibilities for adoption. Eventually we were led to adoptuskids.org. We decided to adopt from foster care. We discovered that there are over 100k kids that are currently adoptable in the U.S. because they could not return home to their families. In order to adopt from foster care, we had to become licensed. So that set us on the journey that led us to where we are now.

Two years later we have added six kids to our little {now big} family and it has been a roller-coaster! We went from 0 to 6 kids in no time flat! Everyone from family to social workers thought we were crazy. And truthfully, maybe we are a little crazy….but Jesus didn’t call us to be crowd followers, He said to follow Him. As far as we are concerned that is exactly what we are doing.

Jars of Redemption is a window into our lives. It’s also a testimony. We all have individual redemption stories and also our family story. I pray that this “book of us” will be transparent and help people from every corner of the world to understand a life that may not be all that conventional but is full of all of life’s hardships and joy.

It’s nice to meet you. I hope you will stay a while and visit with us.
